Modeling an Interferometer

RayJack ONE® is a non-sequential raytracer typically used to simulate the incoherent light propagation through optical systems.

However, since the rays generated in RayJack ONE® contain optical path-length information and since the user can access this data easily, you can also model coherent phenomena such as interference with little effort.

The example shows a simple Michelson interferometer with a horizontal plane mirror and a vertical mirror that is deformed with a Zernike Z7 term. The complex fields on the detector plane are computed for horizontal and vertical interferometer arms separately and then summed up coherently, resulting in the expected interference pattern.
