RayJack ONE® for Space Optics – Wide Angle Diffraction

Hembach Photonik’s optical analysis software RayJack ONE® offers many new features specifically developed for space optics – one reason why its development is being funded by the European Space Agency ESA.

Let us highlight one of these features: the simulation of wide angle diffraction from edges.

Bright light sources outside the field of view of an optical instrument can diffract light into the system through wide angle diffraction (WAD) which often is a substantial contribution to the stray light budget. RayJack ONE® simulates WAD from arbitrarily shaped planar apertures by ray-tracing, based on an approximate solution of the Kirchhoff diffraction integral.
